Wave Alarm App for Android devices

In all honesty, this app does a fairly good job…doing what it suppose to do.  The overall experience is nothing earth shattering.  It is pretty much boring and that tends to lead to little use till it is all but forgotten on your phone and it becomes one of those apps that is just collecting dust and taking space on your hard drive (HD).  We all know that HD space is an issue on Android devices.
In a nut shell, pass on this app unless you really love alarm clocks and the native one doesn’t suit your needs.

Interesting times

Often I am asked about why I love technology.  Simply put, it is amazing what and where we can go with technology.  Granted there are those out there that have done more than their share to pervert technology for personal gain.  But, there are others that have found profound and amazing things to benefit others.

One field that is everyday making huge strides is healthcare.  Few years ago, there was this little show that some thought medical-tricorder was just “crazy talk” and that show was Star Trek.  Personally, I love the show…but I won’t go into all that.  One thing I alway thought was so cool was sick bay.  Dr. McCoy had beds that told him what someone’s vitals.  When he was on another planet he had that tricoder that could give him the victim’s vitals.  Guess what, we have these technologies today.The Bio-bed, made famous in Star Trek is here.  Granted Dr. McCoy’s was a bit easier to see and understand.

 • Multi-function foot & touch screen
 • iBed awareness Smart Bed Monitoring System
 • Chaperone Bed Exit Alarm
 • Protocol Reminders
 • On-board Sound Therapy
 • Spoken Translations in 24 Languages
 • First ever USB upgradable bed

Of course this is all wonderful and all if you happen to be laying in a hospital that is so equipped with one of these beds.  But, what is the average person suppose to do.  Your bodies vitals are the first thing any medical professional will take from you in case of office visit, medical emergency personal at an incident or a emergency room.  Safe to say, if you are admitted to a hospital or have surgery of any kind they will take your vitals non-stop at regal intervals during your stay.  The reason is it tells the doctors what is happening with you and if and how you are responding to treatment.  More often than not they wish they had your vitals when you weren’t right in front of them, but when something happen to you.  Would give them a clearer picture.  Now we can help the doctors in ways never thought of before.

The medical tricorder has been born.  It is called Scanadu Scout.  It is amazing and it is changing how we take care of ourselves.

Finally, technology is on the verge of changing how we treat people with illnesses differently than ever before.  Google is working on a brand new way for diabetics to monitor their desease in such away that it could be the biggest impact to date in combating this horrible killer.

The start

For more than a year I have thought about doing this…and as usual I over think things.  But, I said I would make one within 24 hours and post it no matter what and I did.  Baby steps, baby steps!  My hope is to grow this into something really special, and I am going to need your help!  Please share a link to this page to all your family and friends.  2014 is going to be big…I promise.

Thank you so much and remember to thumbs up the video and leave a comment at you tube or right here!

Is 2014 it?

To say that the last couple of years has been …. “interesting” would be a huge understatement.  In many ways I am not sure I have the vocabulary or the smarts to adequately  explain it all.  One thing I do know though is I am ready for something new.  I need 2014 to be different.

I have been trying to decide what to do and how to do it to the point that I have reaffirmed one of my worst habits….over thinking.  Something I wish I knew how to stop doing.  Often I wonder where and why I do this, but then I’m reminded I am doing it again.  LOL, and to be honest it kills me in so many ways, like blogging on a regular basis.  Anyone have thoughts or suggestions on this please feel free to share them with me.

This blog is not going to be too long and I am not going into depth on a lot of this.  But, I think I will be writing more about it in the future and sharing it.  Just like this writing, I am doing it with a deadline I placed on myself to get it down and posted.  To hell with worrying how my style or horrible and faulted grammar is, this has stopped more of posts than you can imagine.  Maybe just doing it this way will teach me the stuff I really need to worry about.  But, I have big plans….and I need to get them moving forward…..so, stick around and take this ride with me.

Best laid plans…

Best laid plans

I started this site a little over a year ago.  Sadly, it hasn’t gone as I’d hoped.  For the most part I had planned to have much more on here by this time.  All I can do is try harder to make this site the site I envisioned.  This site is about you, my clients, students, and the lurkers.  I want this site to be a place for you to come and find information and conversation easily.  In many ways I want it to be a stop for you to find information about technology from all corners of the internet in one place, even if it only gives you a starting place to find what you are seeking.

This past (couple) year(s) has been, a handful for me to say the least.  Late last year I went down to Arizona for some time to research and test out a few classes and things in preparation of the launch of Training Wheels America.  My plan was to go out and teach people about iPhones, iPads, Android, and basic computer skills.  I’ve spent time with small and large groups in Arizona and Washington states, learning at least as much as I have taught.  Now I have a better idea of how to go forth with this idea from here.  I’ve added things to the plan and thankfully thrown out a few as well. I realize that the level of commitment I need to have for this project is attainable and is my goal.  Equally, have learned a lot of the things that it cost and what that means.

This year I have faced a hurdle or two with my health that has opened my eyes to not only the limitations I have, but to accept how to work with them.  One of the main reasons I initially started this project was because of my health.  I was looking for what I could, what I want to do with my life and what I could do for myself and family with certain limitations.  Of course it helps to know all the limitations before making a plan, and that is what I have been dealing with the most this year.  I can tell you it has driven me a bit crazy!  More than once I have questioned the why.  When the answers wouldn’t come to me when I asked, something bounced off the wall or floor.  Thankfully, my dogs love me no matter what and just walk me through those days.  I have reached a better place, and hopefully some of the changes we have made with my health issues are keeping me pointed in a positive and productive direction.

My next post will be about the goals I have set for myself and this site going forward.  So stick around, I may start slow…but once it picks up pace its gonna be fun!  Please comment below and I will make sure to answer your questions and comments.  Thank you for sticking with me.

iOS 7 – Better wait just a little bit longer

Every time a new iOS (Operating System for iPhone/iPad) comes out people get so excited.  Understandable really when you think about it.  It is all the new cool stuff to play with and learn.  Many times those things that have been bugging you and you wanted changed are fixed or at least changed in a bug new iOS update.

Not to mention, everyone likes opening presents.  Isn’t that what downloading the latest and the greatest feels like?  Of course!  Now, I m going to have to play big daddy here and tell you simply…this update is cool and good, and not ready for you.  Usually that doesn’t happen with Apple updates.  But, in this case it seems to have just enough bugs that I am recommending wait just a little bit longer.  By the time iOS 7.0.1 comes out it should fix many of the small but annoying bugs that are crawling around.  These are more noticeable with pretty much all iPads and any iPhone pre-iPhone 5.
These bugs are mostly performance issues like slowing your device down.  That is something that will drive most people batty.  Many will not listen and they will download it and then call me to come over and tell them all this in person.  In person….cost $$$.  So, decide for yourself and alway remember … I accept cash, check, and plastic.

Does “sorry” cover it?

Someone has not been doing their job around here, and yes that would be me.  To say I am sorry just doesn’t seem to cut it.  Do I have a good reason you might be asking….not sure I have a good answer for that.  I am working on video that will be up soon that might help explain things.  But, please do accept my apologies for the lack of posting on here.  I am working on correcting the issues.

Additionally, I would like to apologize to anyone that may have gone to the “Ask Away” this morning and found me not there.  Was unavoidably detained at a medical appointment.  Hope everyone is doing good out there and looking forward to some new and exciting things coming.

Best wishes,

Rolland
