Just want to alert you to a change in the “Ask Away” schedule. I am out of town the beginning of November. Will be teaching out of state to some very awesome people down south. For this reason, “Ask Away” will not be held the first two Mondays of November. Please refer to the classes schedule for dates and times. The first “Ask Away” in November will be the 17th. Still have one more “ask Away” this coming Monday, October 27th…DON’T MISS IT. Everyone is having a good time and learning a lot. Come on down and have some coffee or tea and lets learn something together, I will be looking for you.
Not sure why, but there are days the internet wants to act like a small child having a tantrum. Seems today is one of those days. Looking forward to getting its act together and start behaving….but waiting is what we have to do at this point. GGRRR!
Next Tuesday is our class, looking forward to seeing all of you and having a great time learning about smartphones.
Not sure where the time goes, but it is time for our October classes already. Hope you didn’t miss last months Facebook Essentials for Seniors class. No worries if you did, come this month to the second of three classes in this series.
Looking to buy a smartphone soon? Maybe already got one. We are racing into the holidays and someone who loves you very much has already planned out a “smart” purchase for you. Whichever, we have the smartphone class coming this month. Learn what you need to know!
All of these classes have an option to attend the lab portion which is held from 12:30 pm to 2 pm after the class. It is an additional $10. You get one on one time to ask anything you want and get apply what you want to do right there! The West Seattle Senior Center does have lunches available for purchase and they really do know how to make great sandwiches and the cookies keep the instructors alive.
Finally, remember every Monday we have “Ask Away” at the Starbucks on California & Fauntleroy. Check out the link for all the info on these and any other classes we add to the schedule.
Usually, I am telling people that updates are a good thing and you need to update your systems and such when possible. Today though I am going to pull the reigns on that recommendation. Possibly in the future I am going to tell everyone to start slowing their updates down till we know the update is good.
The recent update for iOS 8 has not been without some glitches. It has had issues with signing into your iTunes account which is the backbone to much of what makes iPhone & iPad do what they are suppose to do. Now, let me be clear I have faith Apple will correct the issues and this is justa bump in the road. But, Apple is experiencing some …. “growing pains?” It is also experiencing a virus issue right now that they have reported is effecting a small amount of Apple users. Right now Apple is learning what it is like to play in the big boys sandbox.
So, I recommend if you can, please hold off on updating your iOS devices till we sound the all clear.
In all honesty, I have no idea how this will evolve …. but I thought I might need a small piece of this site to have a corner where I might just let some of me roam freely. HAHAHA! Scary I know, but lets see where this goes and if it gets out of control we can cage this animal up if need be. What do you think? Please shoot me your thoughts in comments….they help me a ton! Thank you.
In the course of what I do teaching people about technology one of the benefits is I get to sometimes meet amazing people. People who I learn from and enrich my life and business. It is often comical how I met them and how our relationship has grown and matured. Which is so true with the man I want to tell you about today. He is having a big day today himself with the launch of his new site, www.bobwptutorials.com
I can tell you he has worked for months on this project. Poured his heart and soul into making this amazing membership site for anyone wanting to learn about how to launch their own professional looking wordpress site. For those who do not know what a wordpress site is, Bob has graciously provided four free videos on his site, one of them explaining what a wordpress site is and does. Even more giving from Bob is one of the videos is right here for you to view…he is a great guy I told ya. Please check out this great video and go over to his www.bobwptutorials.com site. Tell him I sent ya.

Often I am asked about why I love technology. Simply put, it is amazing what and where we can go with technology. Granted there are those out there that have done more than their share to pervert technology for personal gain. But, there are others that have found profound and amazing things to benefit others.
One field that is everyday making huge strides is healthcare. Few years ago, there was this little show that some thought was just “crazy talk” and that show was Star Trek. Personally, I love the show…but I won’t go into all that. One thing I alway thought was so cool was sick bay. Dr. McCoy had beds that told him what someone’s vitals. When he was on another planet he had that tricoder that could give him the victim’s vitals. Guess what, we have these technologies today. The Bio-bed, made famous in Star Trek is here. Granted Dr. McCoy’s was a bit easier to see and understand.
- Multi-function foot & touch screen
- iBed awareness Smart Bed Monitoring System
- Chaperone Bed Exit Alarm
- Protocol Reminders
- On-board Sound Therapy
- Spoken Translations in 24 Languages
- First ever USB upgradable bed
Of course this is all wonderful and all if you happen to be laying in a hospital that is so equipped with one of these beds. But, what is the average person suppose to do. Your bodies vitals are the first thing any medical professional will take from you in case of office visit, medical emergency personal at an incident or a emergency room. Safe to say, if you are admitted to a hospital or have surgery of any kind they will take your vitals non-stop at regal intervals during your stay. The reason is it tells the doctors what is happening with you and if and how you are responding to treatment. More often than not they wish they had your vitals when you weren’t right in front of them, but when something happen to you. Would give them a clearer picture. Now we can help the doctors in ways never thought of before.
The medical tricorder has been born. It is called Scanadu Scout. It is amazing and it is changing how we take care of ourselves.
Finally, technology is on the verge of changing how we treat people with illnesses differently than ever before. Google is working on a brand new way for diabetics to monitor their desease in such away that it could be the biggest impact to date in combating this horrible killer.
What do you think about these advances? Please comment below and always share this post with family & friends!
